Jean de Tournes, Lyon 1539 - Genève 1615, son of Jean Tournes I. After his father death in 1564, he took over the printershop. Jean II held the title of imprimeur du roi (printer to the king). Being a protestant, his printershop was sacked during the religious war and he was imprisoned several times. His imprisonment might well have been a happy accident, for he survived the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. After release from prison, Jean de Tournes fled to Genève, where he started a printshop around 1590.
